Get Ready for the May 13, 2023 Eco-Friendly Garden Tour!

Don’t miss the 13th annual Eco-Friendly Garden Tour returning to an in-person format on Saturday, May 13, 2023!

This year’s tour will be back to in-person, for the first time since 2019! The gardens on the tour this year will be native-focused and highlight the importance of landscaping with plants adaptable to our changing climates. A few of the events scheduled at the gardens on this year’s tour include; a California Native Plant Society plant sale, free compost pick-up provided by Zero Waste, and informational tables hosted by the Master Gardeners and Garden Sense programs.

One of the featured gardens in this year’s tour is Home Ground Habitat in Novato. This demonstration garden is a showcase for a sustainable, organic approach to a California-friendly landscape using native plants and other Mediterranean climate-adapted species. One of the primary features on-site and a focus of their work is growing and propagating Milkweed, which provides larval host habitat for Monarch butterflies. In addition to milkweed, they have planted shrubs, bunch grasses, and late-blooming plants to enhance the resources of this habitat.

The space includes winding gravel pathways leading to habitat hedgerows, wildflower meadows, a small fruit orchard, a vegetable garden, edible and medicinal California natives, pollinator plants, a Monarch butterfly waystation, and numerous larval host plants for other common garden butterflies. No pesticides are used on the property. On the day of the tour, Home Ground Habitat will be offering a plant and seed sale, and talks on various topics.

We look forward to seeing you at this year’s Eco-Friendly Garden Tour!

The tour, which runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, is free, but registration is required. The tour will feature eco-friendly gardens throughout Sonoma and Marin counties. The tour is also on Mother’s Day Weekend!
